Cardboard GHENT 2009

Workshop ‘Digital Design and Fabrication in Architecture’
St. Lucas Architecture College Ghent, Belgium, April 2009

Invited by St. Lucas Architecture College in Gent, Belgium, this workshop was organized by Kristof Crolla and Jeroen van Ameijde in collaboration with Corneel Cannaerts and Tiemen Schotsaert. In the intense four day workshop/sweatshop which was called “Digital Design and Fabrication in Architecture”, 60 students were asked to build life-sized component-based structures out of 2000sqm of sponsored cardboard. The format of the workshop was set up as a high speed design competition in which the initial 16 teams were narrowed down first to 8 and then to 3 designs within 48 hours. All students then joined forces to build the winning structures in the last 30 hours.
